Bourbon Trail, MB Rolands & Corsair October 2013

M B Rolands Distillery is located in the Farm Buildings of a once Amish Farm.

The day we visited the still was back from repair and was to be fitted back latter.

The Bottling area - all done by hand.

This is the Barrel House were they store the casks for aging. this used to be the grain store, so the stock they have at the moment is small, but they have great ambition!

These Barrels are the current stock. They use small barrels as the Bourbon matures quicker.

This is a Whiskey Rainbow showing the different stages of maturation.

Two of the old grain silos from the Amish days.

This is the smoke house were they smoke the corn complete with transport for the finished product.

Just a small selection of the lines they produce.

We managed to buy some Pink Lemonade, which is sweet and potent.

On from Rowland's to Bowling Green Kentucky for our next stop at Corsair Distillery.
We decided to stop at Tea Bayou a really great Cafe in the Square at Bowling Green with a great selection of sandwiches. See the menu below.

English Breakfast tea, the milk jug is cow shaped.
We had Corn & Andouille Chowder and Rouxben (Corned Beef on Rye with Sauerkraut) and a freeform Beef Burger, basically seasoned minced beef not made into patty in a bun.
Really delicious.

The square where the cafe and the distillery are located.

The garden in the center of the square.

The distillery is located in the loading dock at the rear of the premises.
You can see the roller doors behind the still,  the whole distillery was in two rooms.

The pot still had just been emptied and was to have another run latter that day.

The Bottling Department in full production.
Just a few of the wide range of products.

We have been amazed at the size of these artisan distilleries, they are tiny! Having been to the large distilleries with thousands of gallons produced daily..... these guys stir the mash with a paddle!!
They also a variety of spices in their products - I was given a small bag of cardamon from their stock!! (forgot to bring my spices, managed to get most but not cardamon, so very grateful!)
